I sent two cards to Eric Black two weeks ago , I got both cards back signed yesterday .
Eric Black was appointed head of Youth Development at Celtic in September 1997 . In 1998 Black was named as assistant to new manager Dr. Josef Venglos . Veglos stayed for one season and Black kept his job as assistant to the disastrous John Barnes .With Cetic going from bad to worse ending with the disaster of Inverness Caledonian Thistle it was Black, Barnes and McDermott that paid for the failure with their jobs.There was a feeling that Eric Black was never liked within the dressing room at Celtic. Consequently he has shown little fondness for Celtic since leaving the club. There was a half-time dressing room bust up between Viduka and Eric Black at the Inverness game when Black accused Viduka of '....not being up for it tonight'. This was the spark that set the dressing room alight, with Viduka having to be restrained from physically attacking Black . When Barnes was sacked, Black was offered another position within the coaching setup at the club but felt that the right thing to do was to go with Barnes.
Eric Black had a successfull time at Aberdeen under Alex Ferguson his greatest game for them was when he scored the winning goal in the 2-1 E.C.W.C. final in 1983 against Real Madrid
Black is now assistant Manager at Sunderland .
