Hello Jane -- What a superb result. I'm very impressed.
"Doctor" Ralph is a wonderful player. With his brother Carter and the Clinch Mountain Boys he played some of the best old time and country music ever recorded. The lead guitar breaks on the Stanley Brothers' recordings were played by George Shuffler ( I first learned "crospicking" from listening to his work with the group)
Ralph Stanley is equally adept at either the old time "clawhammer" style or his own version of the three-finger bluegrass style.
His banjo is a unique "Stanleytone" -- made by a Kentucky banjo maker called Fred Neat. It is very unusual in that it has an arched top tone ring rather than the flathead which is normally used. It is also a very expensive instrument as the tone rings, retention ring, tensioning bar/nuts and tailpiece are all gold plated.
What an absolutely wonderful result, I'm pleased for you.
