Doctor Who group two is on the way!

I finally got my second group together and out they went.

I sent to Caroline John, Katy Manning, Louise Jameson and Christopher Eccleston.

I only had one from the first batch not come back.  Everyone said that Peter Davison is hit or miss but I figured I would give it a shot.

With every request I include a handwritten letter, usually 1 page long with as much info as I can cram into one page.  Don't think they want a 4 page letter going over every little detail I remember about them.

What about instead of including the index cards I make a custom card with a large white area at the bottom for signing?  That way it can still be mounted the way I want.

Two more came back today.  I was worried because one of the envelopes was torn up and in a plastic bag from the postal service apologizing for damaging my letter.  The undamaged one contained Frazer Hines.  He included 2 autographed pictures but like Peter Purves he did not sign my index cards.  Have to try him again.  I have spoken with him via twitter so I may shoot him a message through there.  I am very appreciative for getting the responses and I hope they don't take offense from me requesting more autographs.

The second damaged envelope contained CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON!  Very happy.  They were not damaged and are nice and bold.  My first request and response from the new series.

Great to see the plan working well with replies coming back, if not always getting you a signed record card. Will be interested to hear what Frazer Hines says. Some people just do not like signing record cards. Some think it is nicer to sign a picture than a blank card. There can be many reasons why celebs sign a certain way.

From now on when I write my letter I am going to add what my intention is and maybe even make a small mock up and print it out to include in the request.  I hope that goes to help my cause.

My biggest concern is that I don't want the two I got back on a photo to think I am ungrateful if I ask again.  I am just happy to have the autograph at all.

Got a great response from Bonnie Langford.  She signed all of my index cards, included 2 dedicated postcard sized photos to me and my son and even had a post-it-note on the back of one of the photos thanking me for writing to her.  Very nice.

As a recap I now have 20 total autographs, some of which I bought from ebay but more than half of them are TTM.  I still have 6 requests out and have enough postage to send out 4 more.

On a side note, did anyone see the Delgado autograph that just sold and there was an Ian Marter sell recently.  Didn't know Marter's autograph was so expensive.

Pleased for you Ian, Bonny is a fabulous friend to fans.

Not surprised by the Ian Marter. Think about how long it has been since he passed away versus the number of Doctor Who fans snapping up autographed items. High demand for a rare autograph. Same with Roger Delgado.

I'm lucky to have Ian's sig from when I met him, but unless I win the lottery will never have the money spare to buy the likes of Roger's autograph.

Congrats with all the fab replies, your collection is building really well. Interesting to see you had a reply from Christopher Eccleston. I wrote to him ages ago and never heard anything. I think I'll have to try again.

Got my request back from John Leeson.  He signed three index cards, one dedicated to me, one to my son and one undedicated.

They are all also inscribed `tailwags'

He also included two autographed photos of K-9.

Received Katy Manning's response the other day.  She signed all of my index cards and also included 2 different autographed photos.  Very nice reply.

I will be starting group #3 very soon and looking for some opinions on who I should send out to.  I have enough postage for 4 requests.  I currently have requests out to: Peter Davison, Mark Strickson and Geoffrey Beevers.  I am thinking Jean Marsh, Nicola Bryant, David Tenant & Billie Piper.  Also going to send to Janet Fielding and Eric Roberts since they live in the US, no need to worry about international postage.

Got my reply back from Mark Strickson today.  He also included a message thanking me for the request and apologizing for the dreadful handwriting due to a broken hand.

Nice success to get, and nice of Mark to sign for you while his hand is healing.

Mark's character Turlough was one of the more interesting to appear in the history of Who - initially on a rogue mission for the Black Guardian against the Doctor, and with a ruthless self-preservation streak that definitely had a nod to Avon in Blake's 7. Fascinating to watch, but Mark was sometimes let down by poor writing when they did not know what to do with the character.
