Received these back on Fri 24/9. Sent a Courage Old England XI v Somerset Past & Present programme from Sept 1984, two index cards and a FDC to Brian and he kindly signed all my items. Brian Close played first class cricket for Yorkshire 1949-1970, MCC 1950-1967 and Somerset 1971-1977. As an Allrounder he made 786 appearances during this time, scoring 34,994 runs including 52 hundreds & 171 fifties. His highest fcs was 198. He took 1171 wickets with an average of 26.42, taking 5wkts in an innings 43 times and 10 wkts in a match 3 times. He captained Yorkshire to 4 County Championship titles. He played 22 times for England at Test level between 1949 and 1976 His first cap was against New Zealand in July 1949 and his last against West Indies in July 1976. He scored 887 runs, making 4 fifties, with a top score of 70. He took 18 wkts, with his best bowling 4/35. He also took 24 catches in these tests. He also made 3 odi appearances against Australia in July 1972. He was one of the greatest players to have played the game of cricket anywhere in the world.
