I sent my "Old England Cricketers" programme to Basil D'Oliviera via his former club side Worcestershire CCC last week and received it back today with a compliment slip which read;
"I am very sorry but Basil is now in a nursing home suffering from Parkinson's and is unable to sign autographs" signed by the PA to the Chief Executive & Director of Cricket at the Club.
Unfortunately I never saw Basil play but have seen clips of him on the TV and he looked a very stylish batsman from his time in the 60/70's. This is another sad tale of a sportsman who has given pleasure to millions all over the world being struck down in there later years by this terrible ailment.
God bless him.

It's always sad to hear news like that, but it is good the news is public, so others will know not to write to him.

This is an area that the government should be spending money....Old Age and related deseases!
I think he would have had your letter read to him so I think you probably made one old man very happy that people out there still think about him 😄
You probably made his day...
