A funny thing happened...

It has been a while since I posted anything on here. Not for the first time I have had a bit of a break from collecting, I haven't sent any requests out for quite a few months and not surprisingly I haven't had any replies to post either.

We are going through a period of sorting out at the moment which has led to one of those "Do I need all of this stuff?" reflections. To be honest not a huge amount of that stuff is mine, basically just lots of books and my collection of autographs, but I have still been wondering whether it is time to put it all aside rather than simply accumulating a bigger and bigger collection.

It's an internal debate that ebbs and flows over time, most notably dipping in interest when funds are tight, like just now, and it becomes hard to justify even the prints, envelopes and postage of TTM collecting. Having picked out a fair few targets of interest and selected the right prints I ended up deleting the files and committing to not sending out requests for now at least.

And then what happens? Well this week i've had two replies out of the blue. The first came from James Cosmo who retuned my Game of Thrones photo duly signed. I had sent the request to him in March 2014! Then Sylvestor McCoy goes and trumps even that. I received a letter apologising for the delay but my letter had been incorrectly filed. Enclosed were two signed cards, one a map of Middle Earth and the other a Doctor Who tardis that I had sent him in April 2013, in the first batch of requests that I have on record. Sadly being such an old request they are not my favourite items and the Dr Who signature especially is not easy to see, but it did make me wonder whether I had been too hasty to give it all up.

Who knows what will happen next. I would like to write to Jodie Whittaker, I think she'll be a great Doctor, but I'm not sure whether to get drawn back in and she's probably overwhelmed with requests right now, has anyone written to her recently?

I guess we'll have to see.

All the best.

Hello Steve. Good to hear from you. I think everyone goes through writing loads of requests and then going for ages without sending anything. Whether you continue to send is a personal decision but, I known others who have given up only to return a while later.

I've been going through a slow period lately with very few replies and I haven't had as much time to write either but, I still get a buzz when something returns.

I'm pleased you got your reply from James Cosmo and like you, I received a reply from Sylvester McCoy today with the same letter of apology for the delay.

I wrote to Jodie Whittaker soon after she was announced as the new Doctor. Fingers crossed I'll get a reply but, I expect a lot of people wrote at the same time as me so, I may have a wait. And that's part of the fun.

Good luck with your collection, whatever you choose to do with it.

good to hear from you Steve and a couple of nice results

I had a reply from Jodie a few years agonow but seen any from her since she was announced as The Dr.  She has historically been a good signer so fingers crossed she will catch up with her mail soon

no need to make a final decision mate, you can always dip in and out of it as your circumstances change
