The European Union (EU) is introducing the Common Charger Directive, aiming to reduce electronic waste by designating a single charger type for certain chargeable devices. This directive applies to business sellers only.

Starting from 28 December 2024, only devices with USB-C charging ports can be offered or sold on the EU and Northern Ireland markets. Business sellers must also offer buyers the option of purchasing an electronic device without a charger and must include additional details in these listings.

Note that these new requirements do not apply to products that are already offered for sale or have been sold in the EU and Northern Ireland markets before 28 December 2024.
