This is not a *slimming club* really.

I think it would be nice to have a place to come & chat about weight loss ideas (safe sensible ones only please!),
to share personal experiences and achievements, and also to ask for help.

Lindi is our resident expert, and has kindly offered her help.
Just introduce yourself and come on in, you are most welcome!

Morning all.

I stayed the same again at SW last night - despite going swimming, jogging and to the gym. I followed the plan 99% as well (admit to some cider on Friday night).

I am toning up, even the consultant noticed, but she says I must be doing something wrong as the weight should be coming off. She's given me a food diary to fill in to see "where I'm going wrong" (her words). I'm following it, so I'm stuck on why it's not budging.

Arghhhh!!!

#441 - if you're doing loads of exercise that will be it - muscle is heavier than fat!

It's a good idea to write everything down - you don't always realise what you're eating!

Good morning everyone. Just catching up on all the news. Went to WW meeting last week and lost another ½lb but as everyone says at least it's going in the right direction. Just 2½ to go to my first stone, so much harder trying to get second silver seven. Can't believe a 2litre bottle of coke is 4lb, I have lost 11½lb to date so that would mean nearly 3 bottles. Its great getting tips and advice on this thread, really gives me a boost to keep at it!!!!

Red, that's brilliant! Well done.

I thought it would be the muscle thing, #442. But my consultant insists it isn't. I'm sure she's wrong though, I've always been told muscle weighs more and it takes time for the body to adjust.

Oh well, I'll keep at it and see how it goes. I've gone down a dress size or two so that's good.

Thanks Wendi.

Just weighed myself in Boots (naughty me) and according to them I'm 5 lbs down than I was at Slimming World. Boots must be way out on their scales, last week they made me about 2lbs lighter, now it's 5.

Wish SW's would do the same lol!

#447 - starting is the hardest part. I knew for years I needed to loose weight - ignored it completely - and put on a stone each year.

Are you going to a class? If so, which one?

Jay - muscle is heavier than fat BUT only when you are actively building it. You are not doing the right kind of exercise to be building bulk so I agree with your consultant. What you may find is that you are eating too much - your portions may be bigger than they should be (at ww that's really important - don't know about sw though) or you are drinking too much diet soda. Did you know that diet soda can make you retain fluid? It is better to limit your intake of diet drinks and just drink plain or sparkling water.

At ww we track every week. People who complete their trackers (honestly) tend to lose more weight than those who don't. The other thing you should try is variety - don't eat the same thing for breakfast every day, have a different lunch etc. It can all help.

Don't be de-motivated! I have lost 48 lbs (how many bottles is that?) to date! Stayed the same this week but I have been really ill and the meds are doing strange things to me!! I expected to put on but was very relieved to have stayed the same.

Keep focused and good luck!

Hi ivvie

That's 12 bottles you have shed! lol

SW is totally different to WW, in that if it's on the free food pages (usually about 4 pages) you can & should eat as much as possible lol.
The more free foods you eat, the more weight you will lose!

On the origional plan (red) you can eat as much meat, poultry, fish & most veg as you want.
Your potatoes, rice, bread & pasta etc have to be weighed & limited.
On a green day it's the opposite, in that you can eat as much pasta, rice, potatoes & all veg as you want (bread & meat etc are then limited to small amounts.
In addition to that you can have 10 -15 SINS a day to use on what you like ie: alcohol, chocolate, extra bread portions, buter etc....Anything really!
BUT it doesn't take much to use 'em up! lol, (not me anyway lol)
Oh & you also have a calcium choice to select too!

If you use butter Jay, try & cut it out totally for 1 week, use LF mayo instead!
I found that very helpful with the weight loss when I was on SW, & definately try & cut down the fizz!
It's unbelievable what's in a lot of these products to counteract all the hard work you put in!
It's worth a try, maybe!
Good luck & chat soon
:-)

Hi Sparkle - thanks.

It might be the diet pepsi - bit addicted me. I don't use butter, but I do use soya margarine - although very thinly scrapped.

Here's what I ate yesterday (keeping a note for the SW consultant):

Healthy Extras

2 x weetabix
Soya milk

Free Food

Tea
Sweeteners
Green lentils
Tomatoes
Onions
Potatoes
2 x Apples
Curry powder
Mixed beans
Wild rice
Tinned tomatoes

B12 vitamin tablet
Calcium tablet

Not sure where the tablets go, I assume free?

Perhaps I should be eating more? When I had the lentils, I had a lovely big portion. Yummy.

Thanks for the help - it's great toning up but I want to lose the weight as well 😄

Hi everyone

I'm a bit late to this particular party, because I've spent the last 6 months or so conning myself that the creeping pounds weren't bothering me.

But after a mini nervous breakdown Sunday morning (you know the sort of thing - spent half an hour in floods of tears crying "I'm fat and hideous" while hubby did his level best to try to reassure me) I've decided I need to climb back on the old wagon.

A quick background - have struggled with my weight since childhood, but didn't get REALLY big until I was stuck in a really bad marriage - got up to over 15 stone (I "should" be around 10 and a half)

Got all that off with the help of the wonderful WeightWatchers (whose "diet" suits me down to the ground and I can lose weight on it ridiculously easily - I'm one of those annoying women at the weekly weigh in who always loses 2lb a week without fail).

But then it crept back up. Got back to around 13 stone then went back and lost it all again.

Repeat ad infinitum (must have been at goal 4 or 5 times now)

So - to summarise - I'm blooming brilliant at losing weight, but totally rubbish at keeping it off. 😞

Am back in "disciplined" mode at the moment, although I'm not actually attending meetings. I'm losing weight, but am terrified that I'll just go off the rails again when I get to goal, makes me wonder if it's worth all the effort.

Any of you had the same problem as me in the past but managed to crack it? HOW do people who like their food too much like me ever manage to stay at goal long time???

any advice gratefully received.....Sarah

Don't worry Lindi - I always eat healthily when I'm losing weight, and never undereat (WW has taught me well!) - it's just what happens when I get to goal, relax, and for some reason start eating like an uncontrollable pig until I'm big again - THAT's what I don't understand!!

Oh well - I'll cross that bridge when I get there, hopefully, with the help of you guys.

:-)

Hi & good morning to everyone!

***Jay***
You have only had ONE healthy extra!
2 weetabix = 1 H/E

You MUST have two!
Try & fit another one in also.
If you don't eat enough of those fibre rich foods, your body can't digest all those carb's (same as with the protein days) & just hold on to them.
Your fruit intake (yesterday at least) isn't high at all but if you usually have more than that be careful.
Some people can eat as much fruit as they want & still lose loads but with some people the natural sugars (fructin's) in the fruit hamper their weight loss, as their bodies store it up & turn it into fat.
(just something else I remember) lol
I'm pretty sure the tab's are free also.

Hi to the bradley bunch

I'm the same as you really although have only got to goal the once after years & years of trying lol.
I am determined to get there again & stay there (hopefully).
I just stopped the classes & relaxed last time WRONG!!!

This time (when I get there lol)I am going to keep going, after all it's free when you achieve your goal.
I think that will help a lot.
Good luck & keep posting

wendi

Hi Bradleybunch and welcome! I am a ww too. (Not on a diet!) I haven't got to goal yet but have seen quite a few people who have. Those who pay attention when the leader explains how to maintain and then come regularly to meetings stay at goal. There are others who don't listen properly and don't come to meetings - six months later they are back as paying members again. Even when at goal you still need support. Being overweight is like being an alcoholic but much harder - you don't need alcohol to live but you do need to eat! So getting to goal is really only half of the battle. Once you get back to goal try to go to your meeting at least every other week to start with, it's free so you have nothing to lose! I think you'll find that with support you can maintain yur goal weight.

(Gosh - I sound so bossy don't I?)

hi both

I 100% agree that staying on for meetings once you get past goal is really helpful

In the past my longest "stretches" at goal have been where I have continued to attend meetings - I was at goal over a year one time, and nearly 6 months another

The problem is I can't get to meetings at the moment - due to hubby working evenings, and my 2 year old being at that frisky disruptive stage so I can't take him with me (used to be fine when he was a baby, but he'd just wreck the place nowadays!!)

So I'm doing the weight loss bit on my own (and I'm confident I'll manage that bit ok without the meetings - losing weight has always been a key skill of mine!), but am worried about maintenance.

I know all the TECHNICAL side of maintenance - know what level of points I should move up to, etc etc - but mentally I just can't hack it!

I end up eating a pack of biccies a day and whole tubs of Haagen Das! You know how it is 😞

It infuriates me that I can't do it on my own, yet meetings are a struggle for me to attend.

I'm hoping that you guys, or maybe peeps on the WW boards where I haven't been for a while, can give me some sort of virtual support, and maybe that might help!

Anyway - here I am worrying about maintenance and I've got 2 stone to go before I get there yet!

take care all, and happy pointing to the fellow WWs 🙂

Hi sarah

If you are having difficulties at the moment getting to a meeting, how about having a weigh in here?
Get on those scales once a week (any day you choose, then every following one) & report your progress here?
If you don't want to mention your weight, then you could just say how much you want to lose to get to goal!
We could all help you along the way & give you as much encouragement as possible.
I'm not an expert but have 20 years experience (lol) & I don't think there's a plan I haven't tried!
I will help you as much as I can & so will all the others, i'm sure (some of which are experts ie: Lindi' & ivvie etc).
The next time ya wanna reach for them bikky's or tubs of ice cream, pop here first & tell us!
We will whip you into shape & try & stop you (if you want us too! lol)
Otherwise you can save up your points & have a smaller munch out, then it is much better (goes without saying I know! lol).
Hope this has been of some help to you lol.
Sorry if i'm going on a bit but I am so determined at the moment, I wan't to help, even if it is only a little!
Good luck & chat soon

Hi Wendi

that sounds good

my motivation is usually pretty good while I'm actually losing - but if I get in the habit of weighing in with you guys now - then hopefully it will be ingrained in me by goal time which is when I'll really need it!!

My "weigh in" is Sunday evenings - this Sunday just gone I weighed 12 st 8.4 lb, and registered 37.5% body fat (eek!) on my fancy scales

I'll report in again next Sunday night
