Ebay £1700 Sales Threshold

Hello everyone,

I have two questions about the Ebay £1700 sales threshold:

1. If I reach £1700 in the middle of the year, will it be reported to HMRC immediately or will it be reported at the end of the year or Jan 2025?

2. Although I reach £1700, there are some returns/refunds, effectively making the total sales like £1600, will I still be reported?

Thanks for looking.

Ebay has to report the sales figures (it is really important to note that Ebay are reporting your figures, not you personally) in January 2025.

This applies if you sell more than 30 items or your sales exceed about £1740 this year (January to December).

I don't know if refunds will be deducted.

However, if you are a private seller, selling your own possessions, you will not have any tax liability.

If you are trading, buying to sell and effectively a business seller, even if you have a private Ebay account, you should probably be reporting your sales and profits to HMRC yourself.
