Why can't you cancel an order after a case has been opened ? It is a common situation

I had an unpaid case against someone and then they wanted to cancel the order but you cannot do this the simple way once a case is open.

eBay sort this out please. Also why is it such a nightmare tryting to change the number of days for an auction ?????
