I would like to cancel a sale due to damage

Hi I sold an item to somebody without realising there was some slight damage to the product until I came to post it.  I emailed the buyer to explain the problem & included a picture of the slight damage so they had a choice for a full refund or to accept it as it was. I heard nothing.  After a few days I sent them another message & have still heard nothing from them!  What should I do?  I am worried that if I cancel the sael & issue a refund I will get a bad feedback saying 'item never received'.  Any suggestions?
