Selling a Car in Auction

I had never placed an advert to sell a car on ebay before but placed on car advert in an auction on behalf of my husband. It was clearly a big mistake and I should have placed a classified advert ( as subseqently advised on this platform).  I was also advised to let the auction run as I had to pay listings fee anyhow which I did but its been a waste of time.  For all private car sellers via auction here is my experience so you know what you might experience and how it is very likley to be a total waste of time and money to advertise in this way:

(1) The top bidder placed his/her bid at 1.28 and requested to cancel the bid at 1.30 so no intent to buy. They had previously sought to stop the auction by making an offer pre auction so seems like stopping the auction was always the intent for some unknown reason. I asked for an explanation and received no reply.

(2) I sent a second chance offer to 2nd bidder - first question was, what is lowest amount I would accept ie no longer wanted to pay what was bid and were offering lower than 3rd place bidder so I said no and I would contact next bidder. Said they had lent money to a friend in difficulty so financial circumstances had changed since bid and could no longer pay amount bid

(3) Sent a second chance offer to 3rd bidder and first response was to comment on when MOT ran out (listed in advert) , small dent above wheel arch (shown in photos) and to ask various questions and then what is best price I would accept - I had already said I would ideally have wanted top price bid but in circumstamces I would accept price they had bid .

So ... It seems like bidders dont really expect to pay price they have bid and want to knock down price or drop out, even ahead of viewing the car, based on my experience

Also I have a question ... I put cash on collection for second chance offer I assumed that would be same payment terms , which I listed as cash on collection because I wanted them to see the car , make sure they wanted it before paying. Am i correct in think that second chance offers keep same payment terms as there was no info on changing payment terms etc ?

Sorry that the auction sale has gone badly , but if a vehicle needs to be sold, the best way is >>>

Using a PC/Laptop > Classified Ads. at £19.99 will allow the exchange of contact details for viewing and price negotiation over a 30 day period ... set your Start price at or near the price that you would find acceptable ...>>> avoid Offers  <<<... just continue to Negotiate an acceptable selling price and only remove the Ad. when you have a definite buyer with Cash in hand or Bank Transfer is safely deposited/confirmed before handing over Vehicle keys/documents on buyer collection. No further FVF selling fee is charged ...

PayPal payments should not be accepted .... CASH is safest so No Payment Holds or risk of later disputes >

Nice car ... sold 15th, July ... Non paying bidder ? >>> Unless you cancel correctly, there will be selling fees to pay ...

Bidders are allowed 4 complete days to make payment before you can act to recover your selling fees by returning to the sold item and cancelling the transaction as Unpaid.

On cancellation, eBay will place an Unpaid item strike/defect against their account which will limit their buying activities ...  No damaging Feedback can be left by either party.

To answer your question, payment for a car is always by cash (or bank transfer) as buyers can't pay through ebay checkout.

This applies to initial listings and second chance offers.

Selling a Car in Auction

Please can you check for me as the buyer asked to cancel and I cancelled as
he/she hadnt paid and to avoid fees and offer to second chance people I
cancelled

However when I view the car it says one sold and 2 unsold. The 1 sold is
(1) the top bidder who requested to cancel and (") the two unsold are the
second chance offers I made

I cant see anywhere wher I mark the car that is listed as sold as unpaid
but the car they are listing as sold does have cancelled written on it

I understand I need to pay for the listing despite how bad the auctioin
process has been for me but before I amend paymnet details to pay that
wasted fee , I want to ensure I am nkt going to be billed for a car I did
not sell - please can you confirm that even though the system is showing
that I sold 1 car that , the fact that the bid was cancelled menas I wonyt
be billed for sale as I ve not found anywhere to mark as unpaid as you
recommended?

Thanks

I’ve sold cars on eBay for years but in the last couple of years seven times in a row the winning bidders have failed to turn up despite promising collection dates and deposits etc that’s four cars and seven separate sales or re listings where the buyers have simply vanished   EBay motors is a fraud and not fit for purpose do not waste money as the lowlife can carry on bidding with no sanctions against them

Unless you correctly cancel an unpaid item after 4 complete days and within 30 days of sale, there may still be FVF Vehicle fees  to be paid ...  Cancel now if still in time >
