Just tried opening the app on my android phone and get the message "this version is no longer supported. Please update to the latest version". Pressing the "update" goes to Google play but the only options are "Uninstall" or "Open" - no option to update. Pressing "Cancel" closes the app.
I suspect they pushed a new version of the app to deal with the changes introduced overnight but something has gone wrong somewhere.
Anyone else got this issue?

It took me a while to find this thread. How many people are out there still struggling to get the app to work. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

What is the update period for their budget and mid-range models?
Personally I have never spent more than £200 on a handset; I usually buy a replacement after 4 to 5 years (SIM only contract). Ever since Trump forced Huawei out of western markets I have been purchasing mid-range Honor branded devices (the Honor brand was sold off by Huawei to please the US authorities).

What would be a future proof Samsung phone to get, which can be updated to a high enough Android version that won't need upgrading for a few years. I know this is an impossible task but just a finger in the wind estimate would be a starting point.
Google releases beta versions of future Android operating system versions and publishes hardware requirements well in advance of the release date in order for manufacturers to prepare their device-specific upgrade/installation ROMs. Minimum hardware requirements are rarely an issue for devices less than 5 years old and all versions of Android are supported for just over three years from release with security updates. There is no reason why an Android handset manufactured in 2017 should not be able to run a version of Android released in 2020 unless it was near the bottom end of the budget market to begin with.
For the record I have never purchased nor would I recommend a Samsung handset due to their built-in obsolescence.

I also agree with an earlier post. My laptop is not suitable for Win 11. So in October it will be obsolete. A new laptop or Ubantu? I don't even know if it still exists. This is what you get for being loyal customers of Microsoft, Samsung and eBay etc.
Ubuntu still exists and is going strong; I highly recommend it.

Looks like 5 years of OS and security updates for the current Samsung A models.

Having checked it seems it is now (as of January last year) 7 years of security updates for top-end models, 5 years for mid-range "A" models and 2 OS upgrades + 3 years of security updates for budget models. I have highlighted security updates in italics because it isn't 7 years of OS and security updates - Google provides security updates for 3 years following an Android release. It does however mean that a new mid-range Samsung device should be good for 6 to 8 years following manufacture before it starts to become obsolete which is a huge step in the right direction.
This is much better than Samsung's previous policy but obviously it doesn't help anyone currently having issues who owns a Samsung device that was manufactured prior to circa 2018.

This is ACTUALLY REALLY annoying. I used the app on my phone a LOT. I dont want to have to buy a new phone just for this.
