Why is it impossible to complain about fake goods on ebay?

Ebay is carrying advertisements for Tiffany & Co vintage belt buckles which are neither Tiffany not vintage. These buckles first appeared in the 1960's along with a fake catalogue and are know to be fakes. Why is ebay still carrying these goods?

Do you have any idea how many items are listed on Ebay? How long do you think it would take if before an item was listed, ebay had to check each one? An item entered today would be lucky if it went live next year. That is even assuming that the checkers were even knowledgeable enough to know what they were looking for.

Just to give you some idea, since the Virus problem and the abuse of items being sold, Ebay have removed over 15,000,000 items and I doubt that is even anywhere near 10% of the total of items listed.

eBay are not selling them, the sellers are - use the report button that's on every listing.

Ebay doesn't carry goods. Ebay is simply a platform on which sellers offer their wares, ie. an electronic version of your local shopping mall. Sellers are fully responsible for what they offer for sale, just like the retailers in your mall. If the sellers are UK business sellers, or international sellers with UK warehousing, you should report them to Trading Standards, just as you would if you discovered fakes being sold in your local mall. TS will investigate and advise Ebay accordingly.

If you read eBay's user agreement you will see that eBay takes no responsibility for anything sold here.

It's policy is that the seller is entirely responsible for the correctness of the listing.

If an item doesn't match the description, the buyer can use eBay's money back guarantee.

ebay cannot check every listing

they rely on members reporting them
