I have bought candles that are hazardous

I bought two Wax Lyrical Advent calendar, kept one for myself and gave one to my daughter.

I noticed the tes lights in mine seemed faulty as the would burn for a short while and go out.

Today my daughter rang up quite upset as she was watching a tea light she had lit when it suddenly blew up into a large flame which was the length of the container. She managed to put the tea light out but said the container was black.

I am concerned as there are still two people selling these calendars and others who have bought them should be warned. The calendars should be withdrawn as there could be a seriuos fire if this happens again and nobody is around.

i have spent ages trying to find out how i can report this to eBay and cannot find a way to do this. i have contacted the seller but have not had a reply as it is the weekend.

Can somebody advise me. I have looked at how to report an item but the links that you have to click are not appropriate.

Unless you can Contact Ebay Direct from Help and Contact at the top of the Page. The only way to Report their Current Listings is by using the Report Item Link on their Listing Page. Looks like they are a Registered Business Seller so you could Report them to Trading Standards through Citizens Advice.

I doubt you will hear back from the Seller, they are probably just hoping you will go away and not Report them.

If you want to warn other users, can't you leave feedback?

If you've already left positive you can still add a follow-up comment.

Did you buy these from a UK registered business seller? If so, alert trading standards asp.

If you bought them from a selling China (their feedback page will show where they are registered) there's not much you can do, except leave feedback and see whether eBay is interested.

EBay and other internet sites are often used to market cheap and unsafe imports. EBay doesn't take any responsibility for items sold here, which it places on the seller, but if it means bad publicity they may decide to do something about it.

As m25jet says open a Not As Described Case, seller may just refund and hope you will go away, but you should report to Trading Standards, who would have much more influence on Ebay than any number of reports from members.

Have you tried opening a case against the seller?  Although there is no category entitled "Item Is Unsafe To Use" the closest one would be Item Not As Described.  Open an Item Not As Described case and explain in the case details exactly what has happened, as the seller would not have mentioned anything in the listing along the lines of "Caution - may explode or burst into flames" as a disclaimer!  If the seller refuses to refund your money then escalate the case to eBay so that they can make a decision upon the matter.  If you do that then you may well be able to get a refund of the money that you paid for the item, plus if eBay become aware that the seller is selling items that are dangerous to use then they may well pull the listing as a result, thus eliminating the risk of the same thing happening to anybody else.
