Are you aware that your account is" linked" to others?

I had to contact e-bay on 17th May too query a purchase that appeared on my credit card(as it materialised this was not an issue because my husband had used his account which he rarely does and that was the purchase ) however before we were aware of this the girl I was talking to asked me the amount and then came back and told me it was for a golf practice mat, advised we do not golf and asked her for the address this was sent to.She gave me a address in Wimbledon, I said check the address on my account as  live in Glasgow, she then gave me a name which was my nephews. I said I know someone of that name, she then proceeded to tell me several of their purchases( gross neglect of DATA PROTECTION).We contacted  my nephew on another line and he confirmed the address is his girlfriends where he is staying during lockdown. I asked the girl how she was able to find out his info from my account. She then proceeded to tell me that there are 10 people " linked"  to my account, that is the word she used! I asked for the names and they were my husband, my sister who passed away three years ago and my husband's employee. She was then abruptly stopped and a male person came on the line and said that I could not get the other names. I asked how these people who are known to me but do not have access to my e-bay account, bank accounts or credit cards are linked via my account? He waffled a bit but did not answer the question so I asked for a call back  from a manager and he said I would receive a call within 3 hours. No one called so I called on 20th May, spoke to  a female who again could not tell me how they have this information, I asked for a  manager who came on the  line and she told me that I was not entitled to this information, I said it relates to me and asked why and how they have this and is it legal, she said it is perfectly legal, she said they are not " linked" even though this is the word the other e- bay operators used. She said the info was used as a form of authentication ?They would not tell me or could  not explain how they knew these people were somehow connected to me ,which is what I really want to know! I want to know if anyone else is aware of this practice , because the only connection  my husbands employee has with us is via my husbands business bank account which he uses to pay him. I want to know are e -bay taking info from my accounts and my husbands accounts and if so is this legal ?

She obviously had no idea of eBay's privacy policy.

We often hear from sellers who have received permanent bans because eBay has associated their account with the account of a banned member. Yet they won't disclose who it is.

People don't realise the risk of letting someone else log in on their devide, or of logging in themselves on someone else's. Not to mention family members with the same postal address.

You will have to hope that the other nine all stick to the rules, because if one of them is banned, you all will be.

I wouldn't have expected ebay CS to disclose this info about others.

However, if you or your nephew used each others device, wi-fi or account to access ebay this can associate you with each other,

often someone's account gets linked, so all accounts can be restricted if there is a problem with 1 of them, but ebay won't tell who it was.
