Woke uo this Morning to hear Robin Williams had taken his own life. Like many many Comics his life was one long battle against Drink, Drugs and Depression

20 years sober, then divebombed off the wagon, a warning to us all

nanu nanu Robin, in the end the demons won, such a shame

RIP. It does seem that those who give us pleasure in comedy seem to be the ones that suffer most from depression ! Very sad news.

My wife gave me the sad news from the telly last night. I was pretty sure she'd got the name's mixed up with some other blokes but I went and had a look and there it was.

"Such a shame"  seems a phrase most often used these days but I'm afraid it's all that we have.

Yes...he was a wonderful man R.I.P  Robin. Not a lot of people knew he had picked up Christopher Reeves' bills, and then looked after the son. Then the that's what a wonderful man would do without telling anyone.

Incidentally... Frank Sinatra picked up Bela Lugosi's funeral bill (Lugosi was skint, and was buried in one of his Dracula capes). Fancy sitting at that grave all night?

I have a picture of his grave...later when I find it.

I think his tragic death will bring mental health & addictions more to the forefront of people's minds and hopefully bring about more resources for this Cinderella service

It's sad really, that somebody who had such an outgoing and exuberant public personality; could be in such a dark place privately. If it was one of your own Family, you would just want them to come and talk to you; when they were down. To let them know they aren't on their own and that your door is always open for them, but that would not be enough. It's far more complex than that and I don't have the knowledge, or understanding, of the complexities of mental health, to profess to know what to do for the best...........I could only say "mi casa es tu casa"................for what it's worth.

In many cases severe depression is linked to the mis-use of drugs. Robin Williams, as brilliant as he was, was a cocaine user. The drug use sometimes precedes the depression, and contributes to it's onset, but often, the depression comes first and then the person turns to drug use to self medicate to try and shake off the depression. Drugs are a scourge. I know someone who is taking drugs and drinking and suffering from severe depression. He has attempted suicide on more than one occasion....and he will succeed one day, because no-one can help a person on this road. They have to want to help themselves. Poor Robin.....such a sad end to a brilliant life..........well, we thought it was brilliant, but it probably wasn't so brilliant for him.

Astro

You can just as easily substitute - Alcohol for Cocaine , in your post

You drink because you're depressed and get more depressed by your drinking

Mental illness takes many forms & is still not fully understood, some forms are known to be caused by a Chemical imbalance,
These people cannot help themselves or shake it off if they could don't you think they would?
Also the very drugs that are used to treat the depression often have the side effects in the first weeks of making the depression so bad that suicide is a real threat.
No one who is close to a depressive can help them , only encourage & hope they will eventually come out of this dark place they are in.
Cocaine taking when on anti depressive only exacerbates the condition, a massive high followed by an even worse low.
Many of these brilliant comics suffer from what has now been found to be bi polar, Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers, & so on.its well documented
It's very sad, he gave pleasure to many but his inner torment was such that in a moment of being in the grip of this he committed suicide, it has been found that no alcohol was involved.i don't know if they've found evidence of illegal drugs, either way the end for him was inevitable at some point!.

They are saying that he was in the early stages of parkinsons disease now too and that his financial situation may have been an issue as well.

So very sad to think how hopeless and alone he must have felt in the end. : (

This poor guy if reports are to be believed had more Christian values than these Religious Bigots who in theory would be violating a very personal grieving families right to say their goodbyes to a much loved member of that family,
I hope they are proud of themselves , very Christian of them( not!!)
