From GC on the techy board

Just a cautionary tale.
On Saturday morning I came onto this board (Techy) and there were a couple of the ubiquitous Kitchen threads which have been polluting all the boards over the last few weeks. I reported them both for advertising.
A few minutes later I was banned from the boards - for advertising and spamming.
It was easy to see what had happened, but it was the weekend so there was little I could do and the appeals email I sent to the address given in the ban message went unreplied to.
Kudos to Alan though, he sorted it out within minutes when I emailed him on Monday morning.

Hi al**bear,
These were isolated incidents, I have spoken to our moderation team about this and have advised that under no circumstance should this happen again.
Members should continue to report abuse as normal and should not fear any consequence if they are making valid reports.
If members receive any warnings from moderators they feel are incorrect they should reply to the mail they receive in their community inbox to talk to our moderators.
Thanks,
Alan

I don't think there was any need to publicise what was probably a very isolated event.
All this'll do is make people reluctant to report those spam threads.
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

So you'd let other people fall into the same trap as GC
also, another poster was threatened, with a Ban, for reporting numerous disruptive posts from the same Troll

al**bear says that he did reply to the mods but it went unanswered.... Are these forums not moderated on a weekend?

It wasn't al**bear that was banned, he was quoting another members post.
The forums are moderated 7 days a week.

Alan

It was my account that was banned - as according to a message I got it was actually ME spamming the boards!!!!
It took two days to get the account restored - have to say James got on to the matter really quickly and dealt with it very professionally.
HOWEVER - how the heck do so many accounts manage to get opened overnight. Surely to goodness Ebay must have some programme in place to catch these Kitchen adverts before they are placed. Each day many new accounts have been opened. when I opened this one for board purposes it was a blooming nuisance - had to receive a phone call back with a code.
I reported AT LEAST 5 yesterday and 5 today - all different.
Come on Ebay - it cant be difficult to pick up the word "kitchen" before the post goes live. Ebay Towers take so much money from us that using some of this to stop these adverts should be used.

SORRY - meant to say Alan not James - apologies for getting the name wrong

Hi,
We do have measures in place to prevent spamming, it is a very very small percentage that actually make it live on the site.
We are looking at implementing further measures against spamming also.
Thanks,
Alan

Obviously not an isolated incident as an excellent regular AC responder and board poster has just received the same message. ![]()
