Scientists have discovered the pathogen which caused the Potato famine which killed over 1,000,000 people in Ireland. Can't you just hear all the Paddies clapping that scientists have re-discovered it after it had already become extinct on its own?

If you find my threads boring, you have 2 choices .....
1 ... Don't open them. Problem solved.
2 ... Start interesting threads of your own. Maybe then I won't need to post my jibberish.
It's your choice.

I don't understand that either, Stevie. If a disease has been wiped out, why on earth would anyone want to recreate it? For what purpose?
It's the stuff of nightmares, kissy. The next thing you know, a cousin of this potato strain will be discovered to be the cause of crop failures in Iraq, Afghanistan and other such places. No connection and nobody knows exactly how the "virus", for want of a better word, got out into the wild.
I'm reminded of the Foot and Mouth problem that we had a couple of years ago which, purely by chance, broke out quite close to where the virus was being tested in a Lab. Why???

They take these viruses and try to find a cure for them..

Tommy ... Please explain in simple terms just why a cure is needed for a virus that is extinct.
Until the scientists decided to make it alive again, there was nothing to cure.

Not as simple as that.. Stevie.
You post some interesting stuff amongst your rubbish.
So... we need to open them.
And... you'll always post, - because that's who you are.
Some stuff may be jibberish, but without you, and your eccentricities this site would be much poorer.

Ronnie .... You, my friend, are a gentleman and a scholar of the first water and I salute you.
The thing is, I know that some of the stuff that I post is gibberish but it's how I feel at the moment of posting. Also, my SOH may not be the same as everyone else's, thank Gawd, but in real life I'm a happy, cheerful kind of chap who smiles more often than I frown and while I am able to say that, the "Life of Riley" spins on its axis and makes me chuckle.
