If you can defragment you're doing well! I've got a Compaq Presario which really is on it's last legs. It's eleven years old, I've had no sound out of it for five, and there's a script which makes it unresponsive enough for me to be able to make a cup of tea and still be stuck on the same page. I used to defrag, which took about forty minutes, and it speeded it up slightly for a couple of days before it started messing me about again. Methinks, I'll defrag again only for the info bar to inform me that there was now NO SPACE AVAILABLE! It told me I needed at least 15% space for it to work. Even deleting half my stories - I'm a creative writer, and stacks of photo's through selling stuff on eBay, it has made no difference. The only thing I can do is have a new hard drive put in and the essential manuscripts only downloaded onto my new system, but it's so useless, I'm wondering whether I'd just be throwing good money after bad. I don't reckon on paying £600.00 + on a flashy system with a load of stuff I'd never use i.e. downloading films or music etc. and a touch screen to me is just gimmicy. I hope defragmenting your system does help, but don't bank on it making an enormous amount of difference.

Hi, Frederick, have a look at dinoPC's - I had my recent one (New Year 2012) built by them - just the case + innards, since I had already keyboard, mouse and screen.
So you can pick + choose, (leave the gimmicks out) and you'll have a powerful new PC for way under 600,-
They seem to do now only Windows 8 - but you might have a your old system backed up? Although the i-core processors need Windows 7 min. I loved Windows XP, but got used to Windows 7 too and wouldn't know the difference now...hope that helps...
