I remember not too long ago people posting early about Christmas coming, the bah humbug posts about mentioning it too early, the posts about people not celebrating Christmas, the people posting how it was not the same for them because they had lost loved ones near that date, the sympathy and support from others in the forum gathering around them.
Now, NOTHING ! not even a mention of Christmas !
Oh well, MERRY CHRISTMAS one and all.

I hope you are all having a lovely Christmas! It has been very quiet on here regarding Christmas celebrations...maybe it doesn't mean as much to people these days. I don't celebrate it myself, I prefer to mark the Winter Solstice and the Turning of the Year. A lot of people that I have spoken to are increasingly fed up with the commercialisation and consumerism that goes with it. When I see the mountains of Christmas rubbish and tat that will be in landfill (probably in some poor country) by this time next year, it makes me want to weep. I think I am becoming an old cynic!😃

The old RT has gone. Some of the real characters from way back are no longer with us sad to say.
Other characters are not missed so much because of their attitude but were still a part of the RT and if they were not getting at you in particular, were viewed with some amusement.
I suppose times and people change along with what they get up to?
The RT was a meeting place where things could be discussed, points for and against a particular topic or point of view raged back and forth in a "discussive way" until some of those with no idea how to discuss became aggressive and/or abusive, cue end of discussion.
Some old pubs have gone with many reasons as to why but what's the reason for the demise of the RT?
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

As you say CD some of the characters have sadly gone and that has taken a lot of the heart of RT. I suppose people will say the reason for the demise is real life and maybe so but I feel a lot of the demise of certain things is down to the attitude of people, a lot of them in my opinion seem to think the world revolves around them and there is no one more important than them and I have noticed as I get older, less attention is paid to you, as if you mean less and less with each passing day, also I have noticed the demise of certain parts of our language such as PLEASE and THANK YOU or even the politeness of holding a door open for someone amongst other small signs that showed people you saw them and cared and they meant something.
So maybe even all these little things have helped with the demise of RT along the way.

I've popped in some evenings and no one has added anything - just like an empty pub I suppose, people give up on it as there's no conversation. You don't bother to look because you don't think you're going to miss anything. FHG was once very busy and there was a lot to read, now there's about one post a year. There must be many reasons, but one must surely be that the word "Community" is hidden away at the bottom of the page, unseen by anyone who doesn't already know it's there. With few newcomers finding the way in, it stays empty. It's a shame, isn't it?

Its 2022... only 113 days til Christmas day.
The trouble is, Christmas no longer means as much to people. It's very commercialised being in the shops and media far too early so people are fed up of it before it actually arrives. They put themselves in debt for it and suffer afterwards because of it. Wouldn't it be nice to have a simple, debt free Christmas that hasn't been in your face for months before it needs to be?

Warm Dragon Greetings,
Of course - being a fire dragon - I'm dreading winter. The problems all that snow and ice causes my fire glands... well you can imagine. But Christmas does actually have a special place in my heart because it means extra sales here on ebay.
