How long do you wait before you...........

.........open an unpaid item case?

Just asking as I've had one opened against me by a seller 2.5 days after the sale. Yet not long after the sale I received an email from the seller asking me to pay off ebay, and directly into their bank account, to save them ebay/paypal fees.

As things worked out, I didn't have time to sort any payment out as I've been working, and not had time. Today (on my day off) I was going to call my bank to ask about a transfer to them, when I get an email from ebay saying the seller has opened an unpaid item case against me. I assume it was because I'd not yet paid to their bank.

Anyway I've paid it through paypal and expect to receive the goods soon.

Is 3 days unreasonable? especially as my feedback is full of praise for fast or immediate payment.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks in advance.

How long do you wait before you...........

eBay have recently changed the time-scales so sellers can raise unpaid item disputes after 2 days instead of 4.

Some sellers have this set automatically.  The Buyer still has a further 4 days to pay.  Some sellers are sticking with the old time-scale of 4 days or more before raising a dispute.

The fact that your seller asked you to pay by bank transfer is far more concerning and it's good to see that you stuck with paying by Paypal.

Thanks for your input Aernethril,

It concerned me that they happily furnished me with their account numbers to pay into. I was suspicious as it is a small amount of money, under £40. I had several emails asking me to pay via bank transfer, and I asked if they meant paypal, to which I got an answer outlining what they meant and their account numbers. It caused me some consternation.

I didn't want them to have access to my accounts and was wary to say the least, so was going to call my bank to find out exactly what information is passed onwards when a transfer is done, but I got their email saying the case had been opened. I must admit I was annoyed at their efforts to force me to pay by transfer and viewed the opened case against me as another attempt to push me into paying that way.

I then decided I would be much safer paying by paypal. I did so and had an email later today saying case closed, but no direct communication from the seller.

I will stick to paypal, it's safest.

How long do you wait before you...........

Hello 5129Frederick,

Yes I did send them an email saying I thought they were unjustified in opening an unpaid case against me after 3 days....2.5 actually. And in light of their desperation to be paid off ebay, I would pay it by paypal. Especially in light of my excellent record checkable via feedback of rapid/immediate payment. I also told them I'd expect them to send the item this monday as they had intimated in one of the emails.

Please forgive me ignorance, but what is a b/b?

Time will tell if it arrives......Especially as they have relisted the item!

'Please forgive me ignorance, but what is a b/b?' = Blocked Bidder.

Thankyou for clearing that up for me Regnum Defende.

I was at a loss as to what it was. Someone posted a reply and b/b was in their text.

Thanks.

BBL - Blocked Bidders List - something you do not need to worry about if you are not a seller.

Sometimes, sellers who also buy with the same account, run into problems with a seller who then bids on or buys one of their items as 'leverage' or revenge.

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's not nice.
