Do you sell stuff on eBay? Please read.

I very rarely sell stuff these days but I buy quite a bit, usually things like Memory cards, leads and the like. The thing is that I recently bought something for over £200 which is a lot of money to me. So when I saw an option  on the Paypal website to kind of defer payment for 14 days (Items are normally delivered within the 14 day window) That seemed like a good idea at the time.

Anyway, that particular deal went through with no problems at all but now ALL my Paypal payments are deferred by 14 days, even items costing £1.39 inc postage. No seller has queried this deferred malarkey and I was wondering if Paypal sent a message to sellers explaining what was going on. So, if you have had a buyer that deferred a Paypal payment for 14 days (buyer can't change that number of days) how did you find out about it and what did you think?

Cheers for any info,

Steve.

Although your payment is deferred ....the payment to the seller is not .....sellers still receive their money immediately.

It is only for the benefit of the buyer....

Hi, Millie. Thanks for the info.

I knew it was for the buyer's benefit but I was wondering if the seller received any info about it.

Maybe something along the lines of ..... "Here's your cash but your buyer thinks that you are untrustworthy so he has deferred payment for 14 days." That wouldn't be very nice, would it?

Cheers,

Steve.

Seller does not need any messages or info as it does not impact on them at all..........

For some buyers it can have advantages......

They may see something that they would really like to bid on but they may not have the money to pay at that point in time .....giving them a couple of weeks grace before payment is taken can be useful to some buyers.

Not everyone always has cash to spare .....some people might be waiting for the next payday....

Ronnie .... It was usefull for me because it meant that if the seller either didn't send the item or if it was a piece of junk, no money left my Paypal account.

If a buyer opens a case re. lost or damaged goods, then eBay/PayPal will take the money back from the seller's account before the seller has had a chance to sort things out with their buyer..

One of my customers contacted me via eBay and said that they hadn't received their item, so I asked them whether they wanted a replacement or refund. They wanted a refund and said they would pay me if the item turned up, but in the meantime PayPal had put a hold on the funds in my account.

A few weeks later the item came back from RM. The customer had been carded and not contacted them to arrange a re-delivery. Result: I lost out on postage and no longer sell on eBay. A case of straw: meet camel's back.

As a buyer, I want to to pay immediately so I buy as little as possible here now.
