stolen parcel - courier wont compensate

Can someone with exerience in this help please. I sold a monitor for £80 and bought a UPS label which said compensation up to £60 which i thought was ok . Ive used UPS a few times and they have been great however on this occassion they left the parcel outside the house and subsequently it was stolen. I have made a claim for compensation but Packlink have got back to me saying monitors are not covered by compensation claims and they have rejected my claim. I had no idea the courier would leave the parcel outside the house. Ive used Hermes many times and i'm sure they say they will attempt delivery 3 times or leave in a "safe place". I thought UPS were better but they just left outside house in full view of the street as the receptient has no safe place.I feel this is unfair and irresponsible and dont understand why the courier left it outside front door. I also feel annoyed that the receptient was out when they were informed the monitor was due for delivery that day and annoyed at myself for not paying the extra £2.50 signiture request or using parcelforce. Annoyed at the opportunist theif. Just very annoyed.  Is there anything i can do? is it worth complaining? or is this just one of lifes lessons? Its alot of money for me to loose when i feel its the couriers fault

The tracking says "left on porch". I have sent out a 2nd monitor to the buyer which i could have sold  to someone else so i have suffered a loss. Its the sellers responsibilty to ensure the item is delivered otherwise the buyer just opens a not received case and ebay refund them. Also the buyer sent me pictures of the front of his property, there is a pathway between 2 patches of grass and not much else, no safe place, there is a waist heigh wall but the front door is clearly visible from the street hence why i dont understand why courier left it outside.  They also claim to have cctv on their property but doesnt show much, a guy in a green hoody with black pants removing the package. The buyer could be lieing but i think it was genuinely stolen by an opportunist who walked by and saw it.

I'm afraid i don't know how to respond to the replies on this messaage board but i will be reading them. Thankyou

I'm confused, on several counts...

If the parcel was stolen, how do you know it was left outside the house...? No-one - apart from the delivery driver - can possible know where it was left, can they. If this is what the buyer is claiming, then the buyer will need to take this up with UPS, to find out exactly what address the parcel was left at before making claims of theft (UPS vans have global satellite tracking which pinpoints the exact location).  If UPS have misdelivered and can't retrieve the package, or really did leave it on a doorstep in full view of passersby, then they, UPS, will have to compensate the buyer. And if it's found that the package was indeed stolen from the property, the buyer needs to also report the theft to the police.

Whatever has happened, this has nothing whatsoever to do with you as far as I can see. When tracking proves delivery to the address provided by the buyer, your job is done. So I'm not sure why you lodged a claim or got involved at all. When tracking proves delivery, carrier claims are automatically denied, and you automatically win an Ebay or PayPal case claiming Item Not Received.

You also cannot lodge a claim with a carrier or postage broker until you've actually suffered a loss, ie. you've fully refunded the buyer. That doesn't appear to have happened.

So I don't understand what the problem actually is. If I'm missing something, please do let me know.

For future use, be aware that the postal service you choose must fully cover the value of the item. And that all carriers have 'exclusion' lists - not everything is insurable.
