someone asking me to cancel his bid,

I had a message this morning from someone asking me to cancel a bid as he meant to bid on another item of mine (no bid from him has appeared on that item).Never having been asked this before, I am not sure what to do. Can anyone advise, please?

There are very few valid reasons for a bid retraction, and bidding on the wrong item is not one of them.  The bidder should retract the bid himself (so that it's recorded on his feedback page, but don't tell him that). He can learn how to do that in the Help pages (links at top and foot of any page).

you can do as they ask or you can ask them to retract their bid from their end.

they obviously don't wish to continue with their interest in the item so its pointless leaving it on but if they are not the highest bidder then you could just leave it go.
