Is it correct that proof of postage no longer covers you if someone says there item didn't arrive?

I used to sell regularly on Ebay and left for a number of years due to the high fees with ebay and paypal. Now I believe that ebay will make sellers refund the postage cost and the item cost even if you have proof of postage that you posted the item. This used to cover sellers. So the seller totally loses out and is out of pocket? The seller is open to scams and abuse of the system.

I think ebay is not a viable option for me anymore due to the lack of  protection for sellers.

Can someone just confirm if this is correct about the proof of postage situation please ?

As has been said, you need proof of delivery, not just of posting. You also now need to upload the tracking or delivery number when marking items as dispatched. It may be too late if you leave until the buyer has already opened a money back guarantee case.

This seems to have largely eliminated unsubstantiated claims for non-delivery. False "not as described" claims are another matter. EBay doesn't even see the item and generally takes the buyer's word for faults. The seller then has to refund in full, including postage, and send the buyer a prepaid return label if they want the item back. Havng a no returns policy counts for nothing in this situation.

Please don't just rely on other users for advice, we can't explain everything. It's important to read and understand eBay's money back guarantee policy for yourself, see: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/money-back-guarantee.html

You obviously do not understand.

How do you lose? You refund the buyer and then claim on Royal mail usinfg the Proof of Postage. So long as you have used the correct method of postage for the value, and there is no Proof of Delivery (All packages have a Tracking number), Royal Mail should pay your claim.

Bearing in mind that if you refund the buyer through a Not Received Case the compensation you receive will be Sale Price + Postage (which will include Ebay and Paypal Fees) and you also get the selling fee refunded, you make a profit on the transaction.
