Fake coins

Due to the high number of fakes in the coin category and EBay reluctance to remove the fakes even after reporting them its my opinion that EBay is encouraging selling fakes on their platform. No wonder a lot of honest buyers and sellers are finding different avenues for doing business.

Interesting point.

When referring to fakes on eBay, most people normally think about counterfeiting of fashion items, electronic goods etc.

EBay is strongly motivated to remove these, as they don't want to face another class legal action by the big brand names for failing to prevent the sale of fakes. These are immediately removed when reported by the brand rights owner under eBay's VERO scheme.

Fake coins are more problematical. There is no brand name owner to report them. EBay is understandably reluctant to act on reports by ordinary members, as not all will be reliable and some may be plain malicious.

Think about it. Are you saying that eBay should take your word that a coin is fake, and remove it? If so, do you equally accept that any coin that you're selling should be removed if someone else reported it? Keep in mind that eBay can't and won't attempt to investigate individual listings itself.

EBay doesn't "encourage" the sale of fake coins. Their policy is that the seller is responsible for accuracy of the listing, and the buyer can use eBay's money back guarantee if an item isn't as described. Can you suggest a better alternative?
