Buyers making false claims

I sell quite a bit on here and i get regular messages from buyers claiming they have not recived thier items, When i check the tracking it always shows as delivered  and when i point this out to  the buyer they usually come back with some lame reply, the latest one today was "Well I haven't bad them it doesn't matter my wife is in a mental health hospital so I have inuff to worry about thanks . *** it is strange this buyer had the time to ask for a refund but not to open a case with ebay, I have had them all over the last 12 months, i do report them to ebay but of course never get a reply, I wondered if any other buyers were getting the same problem and what they were doing about it, Occasionally i get really busy and dont put in the tracking numbers that is a real eye opener as the number of messages and false claims really shoots up  , untill of course i point out i have tracking number which shows parcel delivered

Thankfully, one of the few situationw where eBay does support the seller is when the tracking record confirms delivery, even if the buyer says it didn't arrive.

This doesn't mean that buyers were lying. Anyone can sign for parcels, it doesn't have to be the buyer. Some delivery services don't even require a signature. Parcels may be delivered and signed for with neighbours, or at the wrong address, or left in a "safe place" to be lost or stolen. Doorstep theft of parcels is soaring (known as "porch pirates" in the US).

In my own experience, I've had one parcel delivered to the wrong address (similar sounding road) and signed for by the householder, and another tracked as delivered but found in the back of the van the next day. I was lucky to get both items eventually. If I hadn't there would have been no refunds as both were recorded as delivered to my address. Many buyers have genuinely lost out due to delivery mistakes or fraud.
