What the hell is going on with Messages!!

As a personal touch when I sell an item, I always like to send the buyer a message once it's been posted, just to let them know their purchase is on it's way and to tell them the tracking number. I sent a message earlier today to my most recent buyer and when I look in messages, it's now showing in my inbox as a message from the seller to me! As if I've just sent a message from myself ... to myself?!!

When I click on 'Sent' messages it's not there? But if I click 'From members' it's showing as a message from the buyer to me!? Can anyone tell me what's going on? IMO, the recent changes eBay's made to messages have turned it an absolute shambles.

You don't actually need to send that particular message. Provided you uploaded the data correctly to ebay - they do it all for you.
Can't advise actually why you are seeing it as a message to you (unless the message bounced in some way as undeliverable?)

Many thanks for your reply. Yes, I know that eBay update the buyer with the dispatch/tracking info, but as I said at the start of my post, for me it's just a personal touch sending the buyer a message. I still can't understand what's gone wrong with eBay messages though. The new layout really is a mess.

As another poster her has pointed out though, it's not a bad idea to remind the buyer you are a human and not some AI sales outlet coupled to a drop-shipper. This can have a dual role of being reassuring to the buyer AND might, might, even make some think twice about any sort of return trick, knowing you are Alice not Argos.

Did you have any luck sorting this out? I have the same problem, the messages I send are going to my inbox as if the person I sent the message to has sent it to me, nothing in my sent folder.  I need to contact the seller about a not recieved item stuck in transit in the same place for a week. Never had this problem before ebay messed with the message system.

eBay has changed to a threaded "chat-style" message format rather than the traditional email format you are used to.

If you have your eBay messages forwarded to your email, you should be able to read and respond to messages there by replying directly to the email.
