EVRI exposed on Panorama

Excellent, they seem a law unto themselves at the moment too. I received a package that, for some reason, went to various depots round the country and when I eventually received it (after 3 weeks) it had been opened, resealed and the item in the box removed. I know the sender, and it was sent with the item in the box, so something happened during the journey there.  Hearing about a lot of these cases.

Another worry with SD and Evri, although we know sellers can exclude Evri as postal option,  however, many have reported that eBay have changed their postal choice from RM to Evri,  even though the item has complied to all weights / size measurements and all correctly entered by the seller and RM selected.

Will be watching that Panorama with interest !

I am finding the number of posts where items are damaged in transit and returned to the seller, to be increasing.

I don't know if this is just because of the increase in using evri under Simple delivery, or something more sinister.

So, how does Evri have the best rating of any UK delivery company apart from DPD (as far as I can tell) on Trustpilot? I am pretty sure that I remember Evri's rating being in the basement not so long ago (when my local driver was actually very reliable) but complaints don't seem to have diminished (and service in my area is now a shambles).

DPD: 4.5

Evri: 4.1

DHL: 3.9

Yodel: 3.9

Royal Mail: 1.5

FedEx: 1.2

UPS: 1.2

Evri is owned by majority shareholder Apollo Global Management, which is an asset management company.  No surprise then that they're not interested in providing a service to customers or looking after their workers.  Asset managers normally just want to make as much money as possible, as quickly as possible, so that they can sell for a huge profit in due course.  DHL are a minority shareholder.

Thanks for posting the link to the Panorama, it will be interesting.

There’s a YouTuber Zac Jones, did a series of working for Evri videos about 4 or 5 months ago. It’s not pretty and obviously it’s his opinion of that depot.

I used Evri for 95% of my sales and very rarely have an item damaged in transit.

SD has opened a door for (some) private sellers not to bother with adequate packaging as it's no longer their problem if it is damaged.

I would never willingly use Evri for anything I post since as a buyer they have been a nightmare. Parcels more often than not lost, late or damaged. I received one item which appeared to have been kicked around the depot. Rarely have they managed to delivery a parcel on time and without issue. Sometimes you can't tell which courier a company uses until you get confirmation of postage and my heart sinks when I see its Evri.

You’ve either been incredibly lucky, or you have not seen the other side. I would bet that a lot of problems are never reported to you.

A recent parcel of mine came battered. The seller packed it really well, but it was no match for Evri’s abuse. The seller won’t ever know it. It was not enough damage to make a claim over. But enough to be a disappointment.

And this is just one of many this year alone.

I’ve posted before about how terrible Evri treat parcels – witnessed by myself numerous times. And it is completely inline with what you would expect from "staff" paid per parcel.

For people like myself whose main purchases are collectibles, Evri is the absolute worse. In my experience, they treat every parcel like it has clothing in it.

I guarantee my activity on eBay is going to drop 90% next year. There are so many issues with it now. And delivery via Evri is a prime culprit.

In my experience, private sellers have always been quite bad in packing items. Understandably, they often don’t have the correct packaging for the items. With Royal Mail you could get away with it more, but now Evri is delivering most of them (because of eBay’s mandatory Simple Delivery) the consequences are being felt more as well.

And while there is a loophole with poorly packaged items sent via Simple Delivery escaping the seller’s culpability – eBay take responsibility for any refunds, and you can’t even leave feedback, as it will be removed (as again, eBay took responsibility) – I really cannot imagine that a seller can do this for long. At some point the system will flag them as an issue and they will be banned from selling (and probably never given a reason why).

I am super careful with my packing ( as my feedback shows) as if items don't arrive in good condition, as a business seller, I have to refund them plus the postage cost.

A lot of parcels which I receive are not packed adequately, double boxed and all spaces filled and padding around the product in the box.

The box in your photo would suggest that the outer box was not strong enough or packed sufficiently inside which is why it is bent.

I agree with you about the SD issues as Ebay have taken away the responsibility of the seller to correctly package items.

Evri works for me as I know how roughly packages can be handled and account for this. It's not luck.

It was actually one of the better packed items I’ve had off eBay. The box was quite sturdy, and it had a lot of packaging between the parcel box and the item’s box. It was squashed enough to still do damage to the item’s box, though. I don’t recall ever having had a box delivered via Royal Mail arrive in this state.

I have no issue with Evri per se. (By that, I mean I don’t believe they’ve wronged me, and I’m not out to get them.)

A parcel I received today was perfect. The items in it were packed in solidly without any packaging, so any damage to the parcel box would have done damage to them, but it was all fine.

But on average they are definitely bad for damage to parcels.

And this is not me repeating things I’ve heard. But from my own experience, witnessing couriers mistreating parcels, and having my own deliveries arrive damaged.

For your average item then this is probably workable. But for collectibles it is going to become a bigger issue.

One of the main sites that I buy collectibles from switched from Evri to RM about a year ago for its deliveries. That was definitely the right move. (I’ve had over 70 parcels from them this year via RM, different sizes, weights, and quality of packaging, and not a single one was damaged.)

Because of Simple Delivery a lot of collectibles sold on eBay that used to come via RM are now coming via Evri. This is a step backwards. Your average private seller is always going to under-package a collectible item. But with Evri now delivering most of those items it means a lot more will arrive damaged. That I guarantee, as I’ve already experienced it myself quite a bit.
