Seller return misunderstanding

Hi, i purchased a £30 item from a seller which required £40 of additional parts to repair which i ordered a few days later, the estamated arivival time of my original purchase came and went, but the additional components arrived very quickly.

When my original purchase arrived for pick up, I had been sent the wrong item, so i imediately took a photograph and sent it to the seller. Around 3 hours later, i got home with my parcel and checked my messages, and had recived no reponse (expecting the seller to work long and/or difficult hours like myself) so I took further photos of the fnow fully unwrapped item i had recived, and sent them through.  Around 12 hours after sending my original message, i couldnt find a response. So started the return process. 24 hours after originaly collecting my parcel, i found access to further information concerning my return, unacessable until the buyer confirmed recipt of the returned item. So beliving this to be the end of the matter, i purchased a replacement (matching as close as posible, to avoid wasting money on anything i didnt need) at twice the original cost. I recived my replacement item about 5-6 days ago. Yesterday I was sent a message from Ebay asking if I wanted them to step in as i haddnt recived a refund. I rechecked my messages and found my purchase information now unlocked after my return. And to my horror, apparently the sender had dispatched the correct item this time, over a week ago. And is requesting that i dont send his return for another week, then after hes refunded me, that i should then re-purchase the original item? Although ive explained, his misunderstanding seems 100percent genuine, and i dont want the seller to be out of pocket. Does anyone know how to correctly proceed? 😢

Seller return misunderstanding

There is no correct procedure for explaining what you have done. You just want to return the wrong item and get a refund, but do not want to buy again.

If you cannot get this across to seller just get your refund, seller cannot make you buy again.

By sending wrong item and paying return costs seller is automatically out of pocket for two lots of postage. I am assuming that you opened a not as described case,
