Restricted from selling after listing my first item

I’ve been restricted from selling after listing my first item (a box of cards) and have been told to contact eBay to answer a few questions. After I contacted them I’ve been told I pose a threat to eBay and then immediately disconnected without giving me a reason. I would like to know how to correct this as I’ve had this account for 5 years buying off and on and now all of a sudden when I try to sell items in my eyes I’ve been restricted for no reason.

You have no feedback which does not tie in with using for 5 years.

Have you registered to sell and provided a bank account which ebay then verifies to prove you have access to that bank account? You cannot sell without being properly registered.

eBay Customer Services do not discuss restrictions, and for us here impossible to say with no access to your account, what the issue could be, strong words 'threat' can be used, but not describing the real issue.

You have not sold before,  so hopefully this block is just an issue of  not registering fully or correctly with eBay's Managed Payments.

You need to provide eBay with details of a bank account and have this account verified.  The usual method here, is for eBay to send 2 micro deposits into that nominated bank account for you to receive,  and confirm to eBay.

Once this is completed,  you will be able to list items for sale,  and receive payouts from those sales.

This will show you how to register for eBay's Managed Payments.

If there is an issue with the registration contact eBay Customer Services,  who have full access to your account,  and can see where the issue lies and explain the steps you now need to take.

Contact them this way.

This is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services, for a Call Back option.

Automated agents will be available on chat outside of the above hours.

I recommend contacting CS first thing in the morning as there's more chance of Dublin answering.

Restricted from selling after listing my first item

Hi thanks for the response I’m unable to attach an image so I’ll just copy and paste the email I received back from eBay:

“Thank you for writing to eBay Customer Service.

I understand that you want to have an explanation on why your account was restricted. I am more than willing to check and assist you on the status of the restriction.

I have confirmed that your account is restricted because it exhibits a risk to eBay and to its community. Please understand that our top priority is to ensure that eBay remains a safe and reputable place to buy and sell. With this, we have determined that it is in our mutual best interest to part ways.

Let me also share to you that we don't provide specific information on what behaviours we have found to be a risk to our site. We've found that providing this information can also provide ways to circumvent this restriction or review process in the future. This decision is final and the same will be shared with you even if you try to contact us back again.

I trust that I have explained the reason for your account restriction.

Kind regards,

eBay Customer Service“

im extremely confused what a risk to eBay I am as all I’ve done over the past five years is purchase items. Is there any way I can get eBay to revert this decision and at least review it because right now I feel like I’ll never be able to use eBay as a selling platform which is a shame.

Restricted from selling after listing my first item

Hi thanks for the response

. My feedback only shows for the last twelve months for some reason but I can assure you I’ve purchased items in the past and have been a member of eBay since 2020 if I figure out how to upload screenshots I will.

Yes I’ve provided all the appropriate banking details and personal information. I’m currently unable to verify my bank because I’m restricted so I don’t know what to

You say you listed or tried to sell a box of cards.  What were these cards?

One more thing to consider,  are there any other members in your household who have an eBay account?  If they have some restriction / ban , your account receives the same restriction, this so the original member cannot circumvent their ban by using another member's account.

Could this have happened ?

Whatever the reason it looks like they'll accept no appeal, they will not explain any restriction so I'm afraid looks like you cannot sell on eBay.

Just pokemon cards.

I live alone so I don’t know what’s happened

maybe a past tenant has been banned from eBay and that’s why but that seems a little crazy that eBay don’t even allow me to appeal this process?

There is no appeal and,to avoid anybody finding a way around their systems, they won't discuss why you have been banned.

I am afraid this is a ban rather than a restriction as they have stated, 'we have determined that it is in our mutual best interest to part ways.'

I understand this is frustrating but you do have to accept that there is not anything you can do.

Nobody has a right to sell on Ebay and they clearly don't want your business.
