Refund from Ebay Balance despite not receiving initial payment?

Hi,

I recently sold an item. The buyer requested to cancel. I agreed. The item had not been marked as dispatched. They sent the cancellation request. I accepted. 

The issue I have is that the buyer was fully refunded from my available Ebay balance, but I didn't actually receive a payment from them in the first place. The system says payment is pending but I can't imagine it will go through if the purchase was cancelled. I'm confused. Anyone with advice or experience of this? I'm currently sitting £95 out of pocket which I'm not particularly happy about.

This is what ebay do.    They refund from your funds or source but you keep the payment when it clears.

It makes zero sense that I would personally refund them. It wasn't my error and I never received their payment in the first place. Ebay should have stopped processing his payment and refunded him through the original payment method. Not good. Not impressed.

What you think should have happened doesn't change the fact that this is how ebay does it.  Unless funds have cleared they are not used for refunds.

As papso says, until funds have cleared and released they are not available to refund. This is ebay's way and you by selling on ebay agreed to use their way.
