National Insurance number, what is the selling threshold before enterin my national insurance number

What is the selling  amount threshold for an individual, that chooses to sell a few things before entering National Insurance number?

Either of the two thresholds within the calendar year:  your total sales are equal to or more than £1,707 after fees, or you complete 30 or more sales.

There are reporting thresholds but we don't know what figures ebay use before they ask for your NI number.  I understand new accounts are asked at outset.

Is it at that point you  are asked to enter a national Insurance number or at the start of opening  an account ?

Some peeps have mentioned here,  that  eBay have been asking new account holders for the NI numbers at the very start.

Once those thresholds are reached , if you wish to continue selling , you will then have to provide your NI number.
