Incorrect VAT being charged by ebay

Hi,

This is something that has bugged me for a while now. I have spoken to several people on the chat help about it but it doesn't seem to be filtering back to anyone that can do something about it.

Ebay automatically adds 20% VAT onto purchases imported into the UK. That's fine, but a lot of coins don't meet this criteria as if they are 100 years old or over they are only subject to 5% VAT, not 20%.  It's not the end of the world, but means that us buyers have to go through the nuisance of filling in forms and reclaiming the overpayment back from HMRC. If Ebay got it right in the first instance, it would save us a lot of bother.

There doesn't seem to be any contact email addresses for ebay at all, so any suggestions would be most welcome.

Cheers

eBay can't offer a tick box for coins that are over 100 years old to apply a much lower VAT rate, it would be open to abuse. The only way forward is for buyers to reclaim any import VAT they've been overcharged.
