How to combine postage

I listed 4 separate items listing appropriate parcel size and weight under Simple delivery. During the 10 days duration of auction a lady bid and won the items. 2 were via the offers option. She paid for each item separately - the two were based on me accepting offers - these were automatically paid for from the buyers account as soon as i accepted the offers made.

She asked if she could combine postage costs on 4 items and i would package in one parcel and adhere the appropriate pre paid label . I asked of the Ebay Customer  help team if i could do this and refund the buyer the accumulated postal costs . They were unable or unwilling to facilitate this and could offer no solution.

The lady had paid for 4 items each had an prepaid label attached to item. 4 items with £2.94 each postage charged. Making one parcel would be within small parcel parameters but at a higher cost as weight higher on 4 combined items. If i sent items individually she would pay £11.76 however in one parcel it would be less than half this cost. However as she had paid for each item individually ( 2 automatically as were result of accepted offer ) Ebay insists there is no mechanism to refund the difference. they suggested cancelling the 4 items so she gets a refund , then going into complex relisting where all the items are combined as one listing with appropriate parcel details and associated postage costs and pre paid label, to cover this new parcel . A shambles - angry buyer - frustrated seller and probable loss of sale on 4 items. Come On Ebay you haven't thought this through.  I still dont understand how   I can set up my account to allow combined postage on multi items ? It appears buyer has to add individual items in the basket on her account but only if on a pc - does not work on ap ? This then sets the 4 items as one lot and postage can be adjusted and pre paid label set up for this amount. Any Ideas Techies ?

How to combine postage

It's true that had she put them all in her basket they would have combined.   But that is not always possible so the alternative is to cancel and relist on one listing with one postage for her to buy again.

Or you could combine anyway but bear in mind 3 items will be untracked and the money held for 14 days.    If the buyer paid the postage she will get an automatic refund for the unused labels in 30 days.

This is a mess ?
Ebay seem to work round most issues successfully but not thought through this issue. I now have an angry buyer who I have told to cancel the 4 items to get a full refund. Then if she still wants the items, I now have to create a new listing on short duration or buy it now or on offers option - then get her to purchase the combined 4 items with new pre-paid postage label and the post off.

Also, by cancelling the purchased items - I don't know what "black mark" either of us will have on our record ?

Not very user friendly is it.

No, it's not great but if you cancel with buyer's agreement neither of you would get a defect.

A great Advisor here,  has informed me of an update on some progress with the issue for combining postage.

Buyers and sellers get a message now,  when an item is purchased that they have a 3 hour window to buy other items and postage will be combined at checkout,  even if they have already paid for the first item.

This is new, so all members may not be seeing this, hopefully it will be rolled out to everyone soon !

That's good news.  I wonder if it's just for BINs though.

Good point,  would be nice if such ' improvements' could be made in an official announcement for everyone to read and understand   the ' T & C's ' !
