Hire costs

Someone came to look at a mobility scooter I had for sale, the only questions they asked were about the log book and mileage which I sent. When they arrived, we both realised that I had put the wrong make of scooter on (although the specs for it were correct) he's now asked for compensation for the van hire costs, he said he was advised this by ebay. I am unable to contact eBay for advice as I get stuck in the automated chat loop. Please advise

Ebay won't have advised getting hire costs.

This is between you and buyer, nothing to do with ebay.

How did buyer get your address?

You are not allowed to exchange contact info until buyer pays through ebay.

Hire costs

They paid for the item and came to collect but then decided not to
purchase. I also suspect that the hire costs are fabricated as I believe
the "driver" was his son and the "hire" van was his own. Everything on the
eBay listing was correct apart from the make of the mobility scooter. They
even look identical. eBay says I'm under no obligation to pay and I have
also contacted the police due to the buyers threatening tone. They were
refunded straight away

Hire costs

You have no proof the van was theirs,   their son may have hired the van to bring this sccooter home for their disabled parent.

Totally up to you now to refund this hire cost,  how much are they asking for ?  eBay cannot force this cost but I suppose they could turn to legal action?

Hopefully,  this can be amicably resolved before reaching that stage.
