Help

So, my son has sold a Pokémon card and we took pics of it in the box. Buyer received it and disputing that it’s a fake, it’s definitely not. The photo he has sent through however, is a fake and not my son’s card, there are definite differences. Buyer is now wanting to arrange a return ? What do we do ? Appreciate any advice

If the buyer starts a return case, the account holder should accept it and provide a label to get the card back.

If a different card is returned, the the best way forward is to report the buyer to Action Fraud and then contact Ebay directly, with the Action Fraud number, and inform them that a different item to the one sold has been returned.

Also use the 'report a buyer' link to log misuse of the Money Back Guarantee.

Then it will be up to Ebay to decide whose version of events is accurate.

First though, the account holder should message the buyer and ask if they are certain that is the card from you as the photos show it was not the same item that was sent.  Sometimes that is enough to make a potential scammer back down.

Help

I would message the buyer first off and ask if they're getting mixed up with another card purchase, as the photos they've sent you are not of the card you sent them, and then go on to state why and what the differences are.

Thank you, just done that and he’s adamant this is the card he has from us, I even have a pic of it in the box showing what we sent, he’s definitely pulling a scam. It’s my sons card from his Pokémon collection, first he’s ever sold it’s definitely a genuine one, so frustrating and a lot of money 😡 thanks for your advice

Thank you so much, we’ll do that then. It’s my son’s card selling it from his collection, trying to save for his first car,it’s the first he’s ever sold and such a blow and a lot of money to lose. Thank you again for your advice.

Okay, then do as  advised and accept the return, if it isn’t your card item then immediately file a report with Reportfraud (used to be Actionfraud) and get a report number:

https://www.reportfraud.police.uk/

Then click the "Report a problem" link in the eBay case, select "Different item returned"  as the reason and provide the Reportfraud reference number and report. This stops the automated returns process that would ultimately force the seller to issue a refund.

Then, someone at eBay reviews the case. As to what happens next depends on a few factors - if the buyer has done this before, if the seller is a long standing eBay member who's had no issues like this before etc.  We've seen a good few threads recently here in which the sellers have been in a similar scenario but have not lost out.
