How do I offer combine postage for multiple purchases bought at the same time, I have set up a postage rule but customers are still be charged the rates ebay sets. All multiple orders can fit in one box, I had a customer buy 6 items recently, the postage is set at 2nd class tracked small box. The customer was charged £9 postage, I was given 1 postage label so the items went together in one box. This can't be right.

The only way combined postage works on similar sized items, on Simple Delivery, is for the buyer to first place those items in their basket, and then proceed to eBay checkout to pay.
I would suggest to leave some message on your listings for example...... ' I'm happy to combine postage, for this to be possible, please place all items into your basket first before proceeding to eBay checkout to pay. '

Sellers that qualify as a business seller under ebay rules (buying, making or growing things to sell), don't use simple delivery and can set their own postage when using an ebay business account.

As said if registered correctly as a business seller, you could xort out your own postage.
The risk you take with putting 6 items in one package, is that you only have proof of delivery for one. A dishonest buyer could open 5 not received cases and get full refunds. Not very likely but it does no doubt happen.
