Hi - having fallen foul of wrong advice given by the eBay CS agents, I want to check some further information before listing some more items. @tressygirl suggested I was more likely to get accurate information here.
I have two collections - one porcelain one crystal - that I'm looking to sell. I am planning to list each piece individually using the auction format with Best Offer option and the option to either collect in person or use Simple Delivery. Most will have a starting bid of £5. Before I list them, I want to check that what the CS agents told me is correct.
1. Simple Delivery will give full protection to me on items of porcelain and crystal if they get damaged in transit, regardless of whether the items went by Evri or Royal Mail
2. If I activate GSP, then I am fully protected on porcelain & crystal items as Simple Delivery protection will apply from me posting the item until it reaches the eBay GSP hub and then the GSP will give full protection once the shipping overseas process begins.
3. It is not necessary for me to photograph packing the porcelain or crystal to keep evidence that I have packed things securely in case of a claim for breakages under Simple Delivery
4. If one person buys several items, they can check them all out at the same time in which case only one Simple Delivery label will be generated covering the combined size & weight of the items.
5. The Post Office/Evri will accept any Simple Delivery parcel even if the weight and/or dimensions are greater than the label allowed for and that I will not have to pay the extra postage cost.
If all of the above are correct then I will list the items and would welcome suggestions as to what wording I should put on the listings to help potential buyers who might be bidding on multiple items so that they only pay one lot of Simple Delivery charges if they are successful on multiple lots.
Thank you

I hope I can answer your questions !
1. This from eBay's help pages: Yes, Simple Delivery on eBay covers damage to crystal and porcelain. The seller is protected, and the funds for the transaction remain with the seller. eBay will refund the buyer if the item is damaged in transit. The seller's responsibility is to package the item, attach the provided label, and drop it off with the carrier. Once the carrier scans the item, the seller is not liable for loss or damage.
Now, sellers have mentioned what constitutes ' responsibility to package the item' peeps ask how would eBay check this. ? So it is in my humble opinion not too clear an admission they Will refund.

At the moment we are in a transitional period where we don't actually know what ebay will do in terms of seller protection when using Simple Delivery, for example somewhere it mentions 'adequate or appropriate packaging', but who knows what that is and whether ebay will simply say it couldn't have been adequately packaged if it got damaged in transit?
It needs to bed in and for us to see examples of it working according to published policies before we can categorically say what will, and will not, happen in any given scenario.
If I were you, I would wait before listing fragile items.

I feel that it's a case of wait and see what happens.
I'd like to see what determines 'adequate or appropriate packaging' and I'd like to see what is required in the event of a claim. As eBay don't accept photos it will be interesting to see what they do ask for.

Here's what eBay CS told me about cover on using GSP :
not sure - if I list an item and say that I will accept bids from, say, Europe or the USA, is there an equivalent to Simple Delivery, ie the goods are covered for damage in transit even if they are glass or china?
Okay, let me share few details.
Simple Delivery by itself does not support international sales, it only for UK.
If you enable Global Shipping Program, then your listing will be visible to be sold outside UK.
Here you just send the item to the Global Shipping Program (GSP) hub and then eBay takes care of it and is responsible for the delivery.
So if you have GSP enabled you get a prepaid label to send your item from your dispatch location to the hub and then eBay will handle the international delivery.
You'll be fully covered and any damage to the item from the day it reached at hub to delivery. Meaning if anything happens to the item eBay will refund the buyer in your stead and your sales proceedings won't be touched.
Please ask if you have any doubt or require clarification.
But there's no cover from when I post it until it reaches the hub?
That will be under Simple Delivery, meaning if you use the pre-paid label your item will be covered fully till it reaches the hub.
So ultimately your item will be fully covered when under Simple Delivery plus GSP when sent to the buyer internationally.
Great - and the buyer pays the delivery costs unless I choose to pay them
Yes, you're right.
Great - so just to confirm that I've understood correctly. If I sell a fragile item (china or glass) using SImple Delivery with GSP enabled, and it is bought by someone overseas, I'm covered in the event it gets broken in transit.
Yep
