Adding tracking number instead of the automatic simple delivery supplied one

I sold an item and the buyer wanted it quickly so instead of using simple delivery I sent it by Royal Mail 24, as it was listed as simple delivery eBay automatically assigned a tracking number and I wasn’t able to add my rm24 tracking, the buyer has the item and is happy and left feedback but eBay thinks it hasn’t been delivered because I didn’t use their courier and my funds are on hold with no way of the buyer confirming that they’ve received the item.

You won’t get any response from eBay. As long as in messages you showed the new tracking number there is nothing more to do. If you paid for the SD label this will be refunded in due course as it hasn’t been activated. If the buyer paid postage on the original listing then they will be refunded.

You will need to cancel the label, it is not refunded automatically to sellers if not used.
