does anyone know why Ebay have taken off their telephone numbers off to contact them directly instead of automated services online. I cant seem to find a number anymore. Is this because of the pandemic or something else

For quite a while now you have not been able to phone Ebay CS. 

Yes you are right it is because of the pandemic.   Most of Ebays operatives are in Manila and they are all having to work from home due to Covid.

You have to go through HELP & CONTACT, I don't even remember a time when Ebay gave phone number.

Is it really necessary, if you gave details of your problem we would soon be able to tell you if it is something only ebay can deal with. Most information can be obained by entering thr subject in HELP & CONTACT or scroll down or contact options, or ask on here for a faster better answer than you would get from CS.
