partial refund

My buyer wants to keep the item but has asked for a partial refund to cover the damage that has occurred somewhere.  How do I make a partial refund?

Go to Paypal click the payment,use te refund link and amend to the amount you wish to refund.

I hope you have seen evidence of the damage and that the buyer is not "trying it on". 

You will get a part of the paypal fee refunded, but ebay makes no partial refunds of fees.

I have seen a photo of the damage. I cannot prove that the buyer has not dropped the item when unpacking or substituted a damaged item identical to the one he bought. It was fine when I packed it and it was very well packed. The packing was undamaged and there was nothing in the box that could have caused the damage. But what else can I do? Next time I will make sure I have a note of the serial number if there is one, but still does not cover damage after unpacking.
