After winning an auction a buyer has messaged me saying they dont want the item and wont be paying for it. Im not sure what to do now?
As eBay have charged a seller fee the second that item sold, you have several choices now how to proceed to retrieve those fees, and finalise the transaction.
You can cancel the order from More Actions right of the item sold selecting Buyer requests to cancel, but the buyer here has to accept it, if they do not, you have to wait 10 days to close the request yourself. Seller fees then are refunded. Relist the item if you wish.
Or, most sellers would recommend opening an unpaid item case 48 hours after purchase from the Resolution Centre, link at foot of most pages. Close the case on day 5, seller fee is refunded. Relist item if you wish. You have 32 days from point of sale to open this case.
It gives the buyer an unpaid item strike on their account. If they gain two they cannot buy from the majority of sellers on eBay for a full 12 months, and makes them aware it is a serious business buying and not paying on eBay.
The buyer now, can issue you with a cancellation request. You have 3 days to accept. Fees refunded, seller performance is not affected, item is then free to relist.
