bidding

I am new to Ebay, and I have opened an account and paypal account.  I have bid and purchased a couple of items with no problem.  However I attempted to bid on an item today from a company, the next page said something to the effect that the seller would not accept the bid, if a) I did not hold a paypal account or b) if the paypal account was not linked to my Ebay account.  It then prompted me to type in my paypal password (which I did not do, ).  Does anyone know what this means? I dont understand what it means as I have had no problems with other purchased. I am interested in buying the item but didnt like the idea of having to submit my paypal password. Thanks.

You should only ever be asked for your Paypal password when you are going through the official eBay checkout.  You do not need to use a Paypal password just to be able to bid on something.

You may need to link your eBay and Paypal accounts to be able to buy from some sellers, it is a standard setting that many of them use.  To find out how to do this, click on the 'help & contact' link at the foot of the screen and then put "link Paypal account" into the topic bar - you will be shown the relevant help pages.
