Wrongly identified as a seller

I've had a purchase returned to me that I did not sell in the first place. The actual sellers eBay ID name is very similar to my actual name but is nothing like my eBay ID. This is very worrying. What errors are there in the system that can result in this mis-indentification? What information has been wrongly logged on my account? How on earth can this happen.

The help contact pages don't help, they don't cover this eventuality. When I typed it all out for the 'assistant' the reply was to bring up my recent purchases, totally irrelevant.

What do I do with the goods being returned? I'm not spending a single penny to sort out somebody else's error. Why is it so difficult to contact eBay? Why no email address?

I dont think you need to worry about your account.

It is possible that the seller is an overseas seller and using your address for returns

Contact ebay in the morning (they open at 9am) and tell them

It happens when a seller says they have a UK address but are actually overseas.

that is against ebay policy

You dont have to do anything with the item

Just wait and see what happens and then you can dispose of the item

If someone wants them back then they send you a prepaid label for the return but you dont have to.

Several sellers doing this have been removed

If they are not addressed in your name then you can just refuse them or hand them back to RM or the courier.
