The seller claims the item was already posted and so I have to pay the return postage.

Ebay tells me the seller claims the item was already posted and so I have to pay the return postage.  I dispute this as I cancelled the purchase almost immediately. From the seller's postcode, it is possible to see that it is a very rural location.  I am certain it would not have been possible to post the item in that time.  I have been charged £3.20 by the Post Office for the return, (I have the receipt obviously), how do I get the money back and from whom?

You dont

If you paid the postage back yourself then you can not reclaim it.

If it was a change of mind return then that is ebay policy

Many sellers will post if the item is bought and paid for and buyers do not have an automatic right to cancel a purchase.

You may be right they did not have time to post but you can not prove it

Did you do the return through a return request properly through ebay>

If you did you must make sure you put the tracking /16 digit code from your Post office receipt to make sure you get all your original payment back.
