Seller refunded, but requested I pay if/when item turns up...?

I chased delivery of an item with seller after two weeks, next day my account showed 'item despatched'. On checking the seller feedback I realised they were actually based in China (not Manchester as stated on product page) and their score for negative feedback, including the item I had bought, was very poor (100's in last 6 months) I therefore requested a refund given the late delivery, which company have made quickly but they have asked me to repay for the item if it does arrive. I find this strange practice, Is this allowable under Ebay T&C's and should I accept this offer as I'm a bit stuck since the money has already been refunded to Paypal? I wanted the item I ordered quickly, so really want to buy from another seller not have to wait any longer. Other buyers have had this item refunded so don't think they have stock in reality and there was no despatch.....

Thanks

That sounds fair enough to me.   But if you've bought elsewhere by then you can ask the seller to pay the postage for it's return to them.

It's perfectly reasonable for sellers to ask buyers to repay the refund or return the item if it arrives after they've already issued a refunded.

If you no longer want it I would suggest that you offer to return it on receipt of the cost of postage. If they have a distribution base in Manchester they may send you the money to return it. I doubt whether they will ask for it to be returned to China.
