Second Account on Same Email Address

I have been using a name (not email address but is linked to my Gmail address) to log into eBay for some years.  I recently purchased a Chromebook (excellent BTW!) and accidently logged in using the Google option and was taken to another account which I was not aware of and is empty.  My first thought was that I have been hacked and so I called Paypal (as its not possible to speak to eBay 😞 ) and cancelled my agreement between eBay and Paypal for protection, but I'm now wondering if may be something I've done myself many years ago when I cancelled eBay over a dispute, although I have no recollaection?  So my question is, is it normal to have two different accounts attached to one email address?  I did try to cancell it but nothing came back by the way of and email from ebay confirming this?
