Question about collection only

Hello,

I listed an item for collection only (glass but not high value). It was also written very clearly in the description that the item needed to be collected from North Bristol. After a week the buyer claimed he had not seen it was for collection only and is not able to collect. I have offered to send it if he would pay the postage. After another week he says he doesn't want me to do that and wants his money refunded. Should I do that when it was his own fault for not reading the listing properly? Look forward to hearing what others think..LAG

There is no PayPal buyer protection for items sold for collection, and even eBay's money back guarantee specifically excludes items sold for collection which the buyer fails to collect.

In theory, you could just tell the buyer that he collects the item, or loses it. After all, this is what eBay says about "click and collect" purchases; if uncollected after 7 days the store can do what they want with the item, and the buyer gets no refund.

However, I do stress "in theory"! In practice, eBay sometimes doesn't even seem to know its own rules, and could well enforce a refund if the buyer complains. And/or the buyer could leave bad feedback, which eBay may or may not remove.

In any case, I don't think it's really ethical to keep both the item and the full payment. IMO the sensible thing is to offer the buyer a cancellation, through the resolution centre. That way your 10% final value fee and paypal fee will be returned, and eBay will process the buyer's refund.
